AML Foods 4th Annual Feed 5,000 Families Brings Cheer & Goodwill

12/19/2019

Member partners of the Bahamas Feeding Network receive packages complete with vouchers for redemption for Christmas food packages during a distribution at AML Foods Limited Solomons Yamacraw store. The donations were received during the Feed 5,000 Families campaign at various AML Foods locations in New Providence and Grand Bahama.

A few days before Christmas, representatives from over 100 soup kitchens, churches and feeding centers, that make up the membership of the Bahamas Feeding Network, descended upon AML Foods Limited’s Solomons Yamacraw store to collect the proceeds from the month-long Feed 5000 Families campaign, the fourth in the series.
“This year we took a different approach,” said Renea Bastian, campaign founder and VP Marketing & Public Relations AML Foods Limited. “Rather than distributing the actual Christmas packages of a whole chicken, picnic ham, stuffing, rice, peas and veggies, we’ve opted to offer vouchers that persons can use in the stores. There would have been cases where persons, though grateful, would have expressed dietary restrictions to some of the preselected items in the packages usually with the meat options, as they do not eat meat. They would now have some flexibility in choosing items they would like to be a part of their Christmas meal.”
“Every year during the period leading up to Christmas there is an extra amount of love to go around, you can feel it in the air,” said Philip Smith, “This year has been no different. We see it by the continuous support of the Feed 5000 programme. We are also indebted to AML Foods who has been a longtime partner who this year increased their programme-specific support to $30,000 in recognition of the company’s 30th anniversary.”
Patrons were able to visit any AML Foods Limited Solomon’s Fresh Market, Solomon’s and Cost Right locations in New Providence and Grand Bahama or online at www.dominos242.com and make a $40 purchase of a Christmas dinner package. Distribution in Grand Bahama will take place on Monday, December 23 with distribution also taking place in Abaco.
“Our goal this year was to provide 3,750 meals to families,” said Bastian. “To date we have received funds to distribute 2,500 vouchers. Even though the nation suffered from hurricane Dorian recently, my heart is truly touched by the generosity displayed which allows many of our brothers and sisters to eat a hearty meal this yuletide season. We are also still collecting on pledges and will provide the overall numbers once the tally is complete.”
Founded in 2013 as the brainchild of His Excellency Frank J Crothers, Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and Malta, the non-profit organization has distributed more than $450,000 in food vouchers over the last five years to its members. Additionally it preps, cooks and distributes 5,500 hot meals weekly along with 500 food parcels, through its network of soup kitchens, churches and feeding centres, many in the Family Islands.
